Inspired by the deep, shifting tones of tanzanite, this oil on canvas work by Amelia Axton explores the way light moves, reflects and changes within the gemstone. Layers of smoky blue, soft grey and muted earthy tones create a sense of depth and movement, echoing the complex variations of colour revealed as light travels through the stone. Atmospheric and contemplative, the work captures the quiet beauty found beneath the surface and the distinctive depth and luminosity of tanzanite.
